Is microwave right for your process?

Microwave technology can create significant process advantages - from rapid and selective heating to improved reaction or processing behaviour - but the value depends on the material, process and application.

MICROWAVE MAY OFFER AN ADVANTAGE WHEN:

  • Volumetric heating could overcome a heat-transfer bottleneck

  • Selective heating is useful

  • Rapid heating or response matters

  • Conventional heating struggles with the material or geometry

  • A chemical reaction or material transformation could benefit from rapid or selective heating.

  • Electrification could provide a real process advantage

FACTORS THAT MAY LIMIT THE BENEFIT:

  • The material couples poorly with microwave energy

  • Conventional heating already works efficiently and cheaply

  • The process geometry creates difficult field-control problems

  • The technical benefit is unlikely to justify the scale-up cost

The first step is understanding the material, the process and what you are trying to improve.

Need higher power without buying the generator first?

AMT has industrial microwave generators available for development and pilot-scale projects from 1–100 kW at 2.45 GHz, 915 MHz and 922 MHz.

INDUSTRIAL MICROWAVE SPECIALISTS
IN WOLLONGONG, AUSTRALIA

AMT grew out of an industrial microwave research team established at the University of Wollongong in 1987. Today, our Wollongong-based team combines microwave process development with electrical and control engineering, materials expertise and practical fabrication to take industrial microwave ideas from testing through to real systems.
